What is IMG Alt Gen?
IMG Alt Gen is a hosted AI service plus WordPress plugin that generates high-quality, accessibility-friendly alt text for your images.
It plugs into your existing site and:
- Scans your media library for missing alt text.
- Uses page, product and SEO context to describe each image clearly.
- Writes the final alt text directly into WordPress, so it works with any theme or page builder.
Components
IMG Alt Gen has three main pieces:
- WordPress Pro Plugin (client plugin)
Installed on your WordPress site. It:- Queues new uploads for AI processing.
- Adds per-image “Generate Alt Text” actions to the Media Library and Gutenberg.
- Provides a Bulk Process page for filling in large backlogs.
- Integrates with WooCommerce and popular SEO plugins.
- IMG Alt Gen Account & Tokens (cloud service)
Hosted on our servers. It:- Stores your account, token balance and transactions.
- Processes images from all linked sites using your chosen AI models.
- Exposes a secure API that the WordPress plugin calls when generating alt text.
- Account Portal (on the IMG Alt Gen product site)
A secure web portal where you can:- Sign up, log in and reset your password.
- View token balance and site usage.
- Buy token bundles and download invoices.
- Manage connected WordPress sites.
- Create and track support tickets.
How the token system works (at a glance)
- 1 token = 1 processed image.
- Tokens are stored at account level and shared across all sites linked to that account.
- When your site sends images to IMG Alt Gen, tokens are consumed as they are successfully processed.
- If your token balance hits zero, the plugin pauses processing until more tokens are added.
